Weekly eBlast 01.14.2020

Dear Families:

This week has already been busy. Today we kicked off the Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart) with assemblies in the auditorium for grades K-8. This week we also hosted our basketball season openers with both girls teams and both boys teams playing. All the games were exciting to watch - way to go Blue Jays!

We’ve made a change to our recess program. Previously, 6th and 7th grade students ate lunch at 1pm and went to recess following; 8th grade students had recess at 1pm and went to lunch following. We switched them so beginning on Wednesday, 8th grade will have lunch at 1 and 6th and 7th will have recess, then they will switch, This seemingly small change will ensure better recess support for all three grades. We will discuss this change and more in the PTA meeting scheduled for this Thursday at 8am.

This week we will be sending out some very important correspondence as well. CPS has provided health care coverage forms and census forms that will be distributed this week. We will also be sending Tea Dance information out to all middle school families. Lots going on this month - just trying to keep everyone in the loop.

We Are Blaine!

Andrew Russell, Assistant Principal

Our school started the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE! This service-learning program from the American Heart Association (formerly Jump Rope For Heart) teaches your student how to care for their hearts both physically and emotionally and teaches the importance of giving back by raising lifesaving donations to fight the nation’s #1 killer, heart disease!
We encourage you to register with your student to take a challenge to stay healthy this year. You can register for the Kids Heart Challenge and take the challenge using this link.

See additional details in this week’s email. Thank you in advance for joining us as we challenge each other to keep our heart healthy and raise money for kids with special hearts.

Curious about winter recess? Have questions about the activities for indoor recess? Suggestions for improvement? Please join us for the general PTA meeting this Thursday, January 16th at 8:15 in the auditorium- Mr. Russell and a representative from FOB will be there to help answer questions. PTA meetings are open to everyone, regardless of membership, We hope to see you there!

Please be sure to send students to school with weather appropriate clothing. Recess is held outdoors whenever the weather allows. Generally, that means if the real-feel-temperature is 15° or higher student recess is outdoors. In particularly inclement weather (i.e. steady rain or icy conditions) student recess may be held indoors even if the temperature is acceptable.

Blaine students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded for the Crayola ColorCycle program. Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house, even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included. Drop-off boxes will be located near the auditorium and/or near the security desk. Thanks to parent L. Vendrely and the PTA for organizing.
